The Miami Heat scored eighty-six first-half scores against the Memphis Grizzlies

Miami Heat earned a overwhelming 146 to 114 victory against the Grizzlies in their initial NBA match after player Rozier was detained for alleged unlawful sports betting.

Trail Blazers head coach Billups was additionally detained in connection with a broad federal probe into illegal gambling. Both men deny the claims.

But, the Miami team were not distracted as they put up eighty-six opening half scores to lead Memphis by 39 after two quarters, the biggest halftime lead in the franchise's 37-year history.

Bam Adebayo top-scored with 24 points and later said Rozier had the support of the team.

"We stand behind him. Full support," Adebayo said. "You support him through and through. That's our brother at the end of the day."

Heat coach Spoelstra added: "Terry is a person who is important to all of us. He has made a real positive impact on our team.

"We send our thoughts and support for him as he faces the situation."

Portland also won their initial match after the detentions, with Brazilian Tiago Splitter stepping in as interim coach in Billups' absence and guiding the team to a convincing 139 to 119 win over the Warriors.

"We all had great experiences with Billups and his coaching style," Splitter remarked. "We're thinking of him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."

NBA Commissioner Silver 'Upset' over Recent Events

Addressing the detentions for the initial occasion, NBA commissioner Silver stated he was "very upset" by the incidents of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and its fans than the integrity of the game," he told a broadcaster. "And so I felt uneasy. It was disturbing."

The commissioner further said an league probe into the player's actions in spring 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he participated for the Charlotte Hornets against the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the regulators and the gambling firms," he continued.

"We then looked into that situation and were very transparent about it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, couldn't find anything.

"Federal authorities has legal authority... [it] can impose penalties, can do all kinds of things that the NBA can't do.

"So, we've been working with them since then. And, of course, what they announced yesterday was an charge.

"And 30 months after, he still hasn't been convicted of anything, in justice to Terry.

"Obviously, it appears unfavorable, but he's been suspended, and so it is a compromise here between upholding rights and investigating."
